Gerald L. "Gerry Black is the son of founder James I. Black, Jr. and joined the family firm in 1975. He is currently the President of James I. Black & Co., and has served in that capacity since 2004. With a finance degree from the University of Florida, Gerry has over 25 years of experience in assisting people of all ages to reach their financial goals.

Born and raised in Lakeland, Gerry is an involved and active community member and maintains participation in multiple civic organizations. He is a past member of Lakeland South Rotary Club and has served on the Board of Directors for both the Lakeland Family YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club of Lakeland. Further, he is a former Commodore of Lakeland Yacht and Country Club and the founder of the Tigertown Pig Festival charity event. Outside of Lakeland Gerry has been involved with the Safari Club International Conservation Fund and the Board of Trustees for the Alpha Tau Omega chapter at the University of Florida.

Gerry has been married to his wife, Cheryl, since 1978 and they have two children, G.L. and Cassie.

J. Morgan Christian joined James I. Black & Company in 1988 as an account executive. Morgan has been NASD Series 7 securities licensed since 1982, is life and variable insurance licensed by the state of Florida since 1982, and has held in good standing the Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP®) since bestowed in 1986. In addition, he is a 1976 graduate of the Florida School of Banking at the University of Florida sponsored by Florida Bankers Association. Prior to entering his present career as a financial advisor in 1982, Morgan spent some 20 years or more in senior bank management. Altogether his financial background covers over 40 years of experience.


Although born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1945, Morgan grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida where his family moved in 1947. He moved to Lakeland in 1977 and has been active in civic and community organizations throughout his professional career. Morgan is a past member of the Lakeland Sertoma Club, has served on the Board of Directors of the Lakeland Family YMCA and has served on the Budget Committed of the United Way of Lakeland.
